Individuality

Each life has its own voice, conscience and dignity.

Belonging must leave room for the person. Ancestry, identity and disagreement must not make someone lesser or turn their body and judgment into another person’s possession.

Living this Gift

We honour Individuality by asking rather than assuming, respecting bodily autonomy and leaving people free to question, refuse and depart. Community should help a person become more fully themselves, not reward them for becoming easier to govern.

The standard it gives us

A teaching breaks Individuality when it ranks human worth, makes care conditional upon conformity or gives another person ownership of someone’s body, conscience or future.
